The Author: CLAMP

Cardcaptor Sakura is the work of CLAMP, a Japanese manga collective founded in 1989. Since the late 1990s, the group has consisted of four members: Nanase Ohkawa (story and art direction), Mokona (character design and art), Tsubaki Nekoi, and Satsuki Igarashi.

Recognizable for its delicate art style, elaborate costumes, and worlds steeped in magic, CLAMP is also behind many other cult classics such as Magic Knight Rayearth, X, Chobits, xxxHOLiC, and Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle. Several of these works share a common universe with Cardcaptor Sakura: the magician Clow Reed and his reincarnation Eriol Hiiragizawa, for instance, also make appearances in Tsubasa.

Cardcaptor Sakura was first serialized in 1996 in Nakayoshi magazine (Kodansha), before becoming a cult-classic anime and, years later, receiving a direct sequel: Clear Card Arc, which began in 2016.
